What is CRNA Dental Anesthesia Registration?
Senate Bill SB1602, passed in 2023, requires a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to be registered with the Arizona State Board of Nursing to administer general anesthesia and sedation in dental offices and dental clinics.
What are the requirements for CRNA Dental Anesthesia Registration?
The CRNA must hold a National Certification in Anesthesiology. The certifying body must send proof of National Certification directly to AZBN.
What is the cost of the CRNA Dental Anesthesia Registration?
There are no fees associated with obtaining the registration.
How do I apply for the CRNA Dental Anesthesia Registration?
The registration can be obtained at no cost by applying through the Arizona Nurse Portal.
- Individuals who hold an active Arizona CRNA credential or who have an open/pending CRNA application on file with AZBN can apply for the registration by selecting ‘Other Applications’ from the Nurse Portal dashboard/home page, then selecting the application entitled, ‘CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) Dental Anesthesia Registration’.
- Individuals who hold an Arizona CRNA certificate that is inactive or due for renewal can apply for the Dental Anesthesia Registration as part of their CRNA renewal application or may request it through the stand-alone application on the ‘Other Applications’ page on their Nurse Portal dashboard.
- An individual who does not hold an Arizona CRNA certification can request the Dental Anesthesia Registration as part of their initial CRNA application or may return after they hold an AZ CRNA certificate to request the registration through the stand-alone application located on the ‘Other Applications’ page on their Nurse Portal dashboard.
What other information do I need to know about the CRNA Dental Anesthesia Registration?
Senate Bill SB1602 amended Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) 32-1664 and requires that if a death or an incident requiring emergency medical response occurs in a dental office or dental clinic during the administration of or recovery from general anesthesia or sedation by a CRNA, the CRNA must report the death or incident to the Board within 7 business days after the occurrence.
